CPPCC members seek greater roles

This scene is repeated each year when the advisors meet. It's the season for different opinions to be heard. CPPCC members review government policies and debate on equal footing during group discussions.

There's been a growing number of non-Party members in government posts. Wan Gang, is the first such minister since the late 1970s. And scientist Chen Zhu, who has no party affiliation, is the Minister of Health.

The CPPCC is a forum for fresh opinions, and diversified views are shared by many, like those on government consumption coupons.

CPPCC member Zhang Xuewu said, "The move will not only expand local consumption, but will also boost the local markets and employment."

CPPCC member Zhang Yunling said, "It's just one of the measures, it's for the short-term. But for longer run, we should adopt other policies, especially to raise the real income of people, especially for farmers... "

As open as the conference debates were, many say there's much room for improvement.
