Liu Jianchao, spokesman Chinese Foreign Ministry, said, "In response to these recent incidents concerning the safety of Chinese personnel, the relevant departments are carrying out an assessment of safety abroad. This will help Chinese businesses smoothly develop economic and trade cooperation overseas, and also ensure the safety of their personnel."
Seven other Chinese and Ethiopian workers were kidnapped in the attack. The foreign ministry says the country is exploring all avenues to secure their release.
But it doesn't believe this single tragedy should prevent Chinese businesses from operating overseas.
Liu Jianchao said, "Over the past years, China has been carrying out cooperation overseas with different companies at all levels on a principle of fairness. This benefits both sides, and is something that the people want and support."
The attack followed the abduction of five Europeans and eight Ethiopians by Ethiopian rebels a month earlier.
