The Xinhua News Agency reports that a Chinese oil company's field in Ethiopia was attacked by unidentified gunmen on Tuesday morning.
A Chinese diplomat in Addis Ababa said there were casualties but had no further details.
In January, nine Chinese oil workers were abducted when gunmen stormed the China National Petroleum Company office in Nigeria's state of Bayelsa.
In the same month, another incident took place in southern Nigeria's Rivers state. Five Chinese telecommunications workers were kidnapped this time. They were released unharmed within two weeks.
