Wendell Flinchum, police chief, Virginia Tech, said, "Police presence in and around Burruss Hall was increased, which led to many rumors and false assumptions about what was happening. That led to an unwarranted report of a suspicious person within the Hall. Officers immediately responded and entered the building. The building was cleared and the report of the suspicious person was unfounded."
Also on Wednesday, the governor of Virginia visited students being treated for injuries at Montgomery Regional Hospital. Timothy Kaine gave an upbeat report on their recovery. He also stressed the need to ask difficult questions, that could help prevent a repeat of Monday's massacre.
Timothy Kaine said, "Everything about the individual, everything about the shooting itself and then the law enforcement response to it, all of that will be on the table for evaluation by people with independence and expertise so that we can learn everything we can about this incident and hopefully learn some things to do in the future."
