The forum will be a platform for public exchanges. Officials say more than 8,000 people from all walks of life from Taiwan are set to participate. Most are from the central and southern part of the island. The head of a major economic group and representatives from the technology and shipping industries will also be present.

On the mainland side, leaders from various departments and industries, as well as scholars, will be in attendance. The provinces of Guangdong, Zhejiang and Jiangxi will also be sending delegations to the forum.

Yang Yi, spokesman of Taiwan Affairs Office, State Council, said, "The Cross-Strait Forum is a platform for cross-strait communication among the general public. The theme is non-governmental and universal. It stresses equal participation and interaction. The relevant departments have been paying careful attention to the preparations. With A/H1N1 flu in mind, they have taken active measures to ensure the forum runs smoothly."

Yang Yi also said the Chairman of Taiwan's KMT Party, Wu Poh-hsiung, has accepted China Communist Party Chairman Hu Jintao's invitation to visit Beijing. Wu will attend the commemoration of Sun Yat-Sen in Nanjing, the capital of southeast China's Jiangsu province.
