Pakistan's army is reinforcing the 12 to 15-thousand troops in Swat, as they take on up to 5-thousand militants, including small numbers of foreigners and hardened fighters from the South Waziristan border region.
Meanwhile, Pakistani warplanes bombed suspected militant positions in a stronghold close to the capital on Monday, pressing ahead with a fierce offensive that the government claims had killed 700 insurgents and put the Taliban on the run.
The UN said over 360-thousand refugees had fled Swat and the neighboring Dir and Buner districts since operations began last week.
