The Nepali Minister for Information and Communication says second-in-command, Kul Bahadur Khadka, is now the acting Chief of Army Staff.

Leaders from several smaller parties walked out of the Cabinet meeting after the decision was announced and are debating whether to withdraw their support completely.

Supporters of the Nepalese Prime Minister took to the streets on Sunday to celebrate his decision, while opposition supporters protested the move.
