U.S. President Barack Obama is giving his administration the thumbs-up for the first 100 days in office.

He told a crowd that his administration was working to "clear away the wreckage" of recession and promised to keep up the whirlwind pace.

Barack Obama, U.S. President, said, "Even as we clear away the wreckage of this recession, I've also said that we can't go back to an economy that's built on a pile of sand. On inflated home prices and max'd out credit cards, on over-leveraged banks and outdated regulations that allow recklessness of a few to threaten the prosperity of all. we have to lay a new foundation for growth, a foundation that will strengthen our economy and help us compete in the 21st century."

Obama countered critics who say he's taking on too much, as he works to turn around the recession while revamping energy, education and health care.

He also commended his infant government for its efforts to end the Iraq war, and forge a new strategy on Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Meanwhile, he assured Americans his administration is ready to do whatever it takes in response to a growing swine flu outbreak -- his first public health emergency.
