Cuban President, Raul Castro, says his country is willing to discuss measures with the US to improve relations between the two countries.

Speaking at a summit of non-aligned nations, Castro called US President Barack Obama's lifting of travel restrictions positive, but he criticized the 47 year-old US trade embargo. He also said Cuba did not need to make "gestures" towards the US.

Washington has said it wants positive "signals" from Cuba, such as political reforms, to move ahead toward normal relations. But Castro repeated an offer, similar to one made April 16th, that he is open to speaking with US officials.

The Obama administration had greeted the April comments as an important gesture. But Raul Castro's older brother, former leader Fidel, wrote a few days later that the words had been "misinterpreted".
