Iran proposes to end standoff

Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki visited the EU headquarters on Thursday. He said Iran will present a modified package of proposals aimed at ending the standoff with the West over its nuclear program.

He also welcomed the Obama administration's reversal of policy toward Tehran, and its willingness to engage in dialogue with the Iranians.

Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said, "We believe that the new package of proposals can be a very good base for mutual cooperation at the international level, and also for finding solutions to regional as well as transregional problems. We think that if the slogans used by Mr. Obama to break the impasse that was created by the previous administration,... if they are indeed put into concrete action, it would certainly be positive."
