China successfully launches Yaogan Six into orbit

China has launched a new remote-sensing satellite, the sixth in its Yaogan series. The Yaogan Six will be mainly used for land resources surveys, environmental protection, and disaster prevention.

The Long March carrier rocket blasted off from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in Shanxi Province early Wednesday morning. Last week, China launched its second navigation satellite in the COMPASS system. The satellite has entered the preset orbit and normal working status.
