The satellite was launched on a Long March 2C carrier rocket at 10:55 on Wednesday morning. It will be mainly used to survey land resources and the environment, urban planning, crop yields and disasters, and for space science experiments.

The carrier rocket was designed by the China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology. The flight was the 117th of the Long March series of carrier rockets.
