And Hong Kong films are indeed this year's biggest winners. Mainland stars have dominated the best actress awards in the past 4 years. But this time, the award went to 59-year-old Pau Hei-ching, a talented Hong Kong actress.

Hong Kong actress, Pau Hei-ching, said, "We absolutely had no thoughts that 'The Way We Were' would win any awards when we were shooting. We just wanted to support director Ann Hui to make a meaningful film. It's beyond my expectations. Thanks to all my friends for your support."

"The Way We Were" is a moving portrait of the pains and joys of ordinary people in Hong Kong's suburban Tin Shui Wai district. Pau Hei-ching plays a single mother raising a teenage son. The film also won awards for best director, best supporting actress and best screenplay.

Best actor award went to Nick Cheung, for his portrayal of a kidnapper who struggles to care for his wife in the action thriller "The Beast Stalker."

Hong Kong actor, Nick Cheung, said, "Winning the award is very important to veteran actors like us. There's no need to consider what made us win. There's nothing that can replace winning the trophy."

"Ip Man," is the story about a famous martial arts teacher by the same name starring Donnie Yen. The film describes how kung fu master Ip Man resisted Japanese rule in his southern Chinese hometown during World War Two.
