The Chinese Navy's second task force has driven suspected pirates away from merchant ships in the eastern waters of the Gulf of Aden.

Using advanced technology, it detected that at least 3 or 4 speedboats were attached to each suspected vessel.

The commander of the "Shenzhen" destroyer immediately went into action ordering the highest stage alert for anti-piracy deployment.

The "Shenzhen" immediately advised the 9 merchant ships to change course and accelerate speed. All of the ships arrived safely at their destination on Sunday morning.

This is the first escort mission performed by the "Shenzhen" destroyer since taking over from the Chinese Navy's "Wuhan" and " Haikou" military vessels. Both ships are now on their way back to China.
