The new law will allow Bolivia's first indigenous president to be a presidential candidate in general elections due Dec. 6.

Morales began his fast on Thursday, after opposition deputies walked out of the nation's Congress, protesting a measure to give 14 seats to minority indigenous groups and bringing the debate to a halt.
