On December 26th last year, two destroyers and a supply vessel with 800 crew members left for the Gulf of Aden. It was the first time Chinese warships patrolled outside Chinese waters to protect the safety of Chinese ships. They also took on international humanitarian responsibilities.

On the second day, the task force carried out its first comprehensive anti-pirate drill.

On January 6th, the naval fleet arrived in the waters of the Gulf of Aden, off Somalia. And the three ships conducted their first escort mission.

On January 29th, the destroyer Wuhan received a distress signal from a Greek merchant ship. They sent a helicopter and special troops to the vessel, and they rescued it from the pirates.

On January 31st, the Wuhan was restocked with food from the supply vessel. Its rubbish was handed back to the supply vessel, where it was compressed. The crews also held a New Year's celebration.
