Waibaidu bridge reopens to pedestrians

WATCH VIDEO

The Waibaidu bridge was taken from its piers last March, after standing at the intersection of Suzhou Creek and the Huangpu River for more than 100 years. It underwent renovation to extend its lifespan by another 50 years, before returning to its original location at the end of February.

Shanghai's landmark Waibaidu Bridge has reopened to pedestrians after major renovations. The crowds gathered this morning to welcome the bridge's return.

The project spurred nostlagic emotions among many elderly, who gathered to see the bridge's removal and return.

After Wednesday's opening, construction workers will give the bridge's decorative lights a final test. Before it opens to traffic on Friday evening, you can also stroll along the historic bridge, just like the heroes and heroines of old Shanghai movies.
