David Shambough is a professor from George Washington University. He says the meeting between the US and Chinese presidents has made a good start for the further development of bilateral ties.

Shambough also believes China is playing an increasingly important global role. He says relations between China and the US go beyond the two countries to influence the rest of the world.

The Obama administration has emphasized relations with China since the president took office this January. The meeting between the two presidents indicates a good start .
