He's also calling for joint efforts against trade and investment protectionism.

The president says the international financial system needs necessary reforms in a comprehensive, balanced, gradual and effective manner to prevent a similar crisis in the future.

Hu Jintao says China will work with all the other parties attending the summit to help yield "positive" and "practical" results.

He says China promises to make its own contribution to the recovery of world economy.

The president stresses that a vigorous and more open China will not only benefit its own steady, fast growth, but also help the international community fight the financial crisis and contribute to world peace and development.

Hu Jintao acknowledges the global economic downturn has created many difficulties for China, citing the slump in exports and imports, slower industrial production and unemployment.

But he stresses a basket of governmental measures to stimulate domestic demand and promote economic growth has begun to take effect.

He says China has the confidence, conditions and capabilities to maintain steady, rapid growth.
