WATCH VIDEO

More than one-thousand monks and nuns from about 50 countries and regions are gathering in Wuxi's new Buddha Palace, to discuss peace and harmony.

The theme is "A Harmonious World, A Synergy of Conditions". That implies that a harmonious world is based on a common pursuit, and the cooperation of different nationalities and civilizations.

Venerable Yi Cheng, chairman of Buddhist Association of China, said, "Confronted with the worsening global financial crisis, the development of the world and mankind is facing difficulties. The international communities should make cooperative efforts to deal with the problems. That's why we decided on this theme."

What makes this forum historic -- is that the second part will be held in Taipei. People view the cooperation between Buddhist circles on both sides of the Taiwan Strait to co-host the forum as a sign of the peaceful development of Cross-Strait ties.

Master Xingyun, president of Buddha's Light Int'l Association, said, "Building a harmonious world and a synergy of conditions are the theme of this event. Once your put your fingers together, you have the conditions. Once you release your fingers, they're on their own. Therefore world peace needs our concerted efforts."
