Chinese foreign ministry spokesman, Qin Gang, says China hopes overseas media can cover Tibet in an objective, comprehensive and truthful manner. Qin Gang was speaking in response to a video clip released online last week that allegedly shows Chinese police brutality in the Lhasa riots last March.

Qin Gang says the Dalai clique has edited and intentionally misrepresented the clip. He says the riot seriously undermined social stability in Lhasa and 18 innocent civilians were killed. Economic loss amounted to nearly 300 million yuan, or more than 40 million US dollars.

Qin Gang, Chinese foreign ministry spokesman, said, "I have repeated many times before that when we were dealing with the violence in Tibet, local police and paramilitary troops showed maximum restraint at all times. They strictly followed the law, exercised their duties in a civilized manner and did not carry any lethal weapons."
