This retired community worker in downtown Lhasa told us the riots accomplished only one thing: bringing trouble into people’s lives.

Yexe Lozhub, Lhasa Resident, said, “The riots only made our lives miserable. Businessmen had no business, and we had no place to buy our daily necessities.(CCTV.com)

Yexe Lozhub, Lhasa Resident, said, “The riots only made our lives miserable. Businessmen had no business, and we had no place to buy our daily necessities. When the vegetable vendors escaped, we weren’t able to buy food for dinner. Stability is essential for our daily well-being. What we have gained from the riots is only suffering.”

It’s the people who suffer. That’s the common reaction when locals were asked about their views on last year’s riots. They say they value being able to go shopping when they want, and not having to worry about their children’s safety on the way to school.
