Chinese political advisors say World Expo 2010, to be held in Shanghai, can help China and the world ride through the global financial crisis. CPPCC members discussed the expo during a press conference Sunday afternoon.

Zhou Hanmin, member of the 11th National  Committee of the Chinese People's Political  Consultative Conference (CPPCC), answers  questions during a press conference on the  World Expo 2010 to be held in Shanghai, held  by the Second Session of the 11th National Committee of the CPPCC in Beijing, capital of  China, March 8, 2009.

The Shanghai World Expo is to be held from May 1st to October 31st, next year.

CPPCC member Zhou Hanmin, who is also the deputy director of the Shanghai World Expo bureau, says it will be another great global gathering after the Beijing Olympics. He also says it could be an opportunity to help rejuvenate the national and global economies.

CPPCC member Zhou Hanmin said, "I believe the Expo could boost economic development. It will boost investment, consumption, tourism and cultural activities. It will also boost confidence in face of the financial crisis. No attendees have announced they will pull out due to the global economic turmoil. They are trying every means to ensure their participation."

CPPCC members have followed the Expo preparations and some are directly engaged in Expo work.

So far, 231 countries and international organizations have confirmed they will attend the Expo. Preparations are going smoothly, including venue construction, participant recruitment, volunteer work and ticket sales.

CPPCC member Zhou Hanmin said, "The Shanghai World Expo will have a record number of participants. Visitors from home and abroad could reach 70 million. Here, I'd like to extent invitation to all of you to attend."

The Expo's theme is "Better city, Better life". CPPCC members believe it will be a grand event for exchanges in economy, science and technology and culture. During 184 days Expo, participants will discuss the future of urban development.
