CPPCC members gathered to make proposals on the country's development.

The nation is still recovering from the Sichuan earthquake last May. Some members suggested establishing a disaster insurance system, supported by both governments and commercial insurance companies. This system, together with disaster relief funds and social donations, would help the affected areas to recover. Others proposed to enhance the protection of cultural heritage in disaster-hit areas.

The financial crisis has caused employment pressures, and some CPPCC members called for a better training campaign and an improved social security system to help young graduates and migrant workers find jobs. They also urged the government to protect employees' rights and interests, particularly female job-seekers.

The meeting also discussed rural health care reform and the pension system. They say ensuring rural farmers' access to fair and high quality medical and senior services is the key to building a moderately prosperous society.

Some CPPCC members wanted to eliminate overlapping administration and enhance supervision of food safety. Others proposed to reform the awards system for high-tech projects, to promote the country's scientific development.
