Special Report:   2009 NPC & CPPCC Sessions

Political advisors have made several proposals to promote domestic consumption, enhance the status of agriculture and speed up the construction of medium and small-sized financial sectors. They made the remarks at a plenary meeting of the annual session of the CPPCC.

One of the proposals is for China to frame a law on agriculture protection in a bid to strengthen its fundamental status. Members say an agriculture protection law will help to ensure governments at county and township levels provide sufficient financial support for developing modern agriculture.

And to boost domestic demand, they suggested that the country should considerably increase the spending on infrastructure and public work in rural areas.

Meanwhile some political advisors urged government to give green light to the establishment of more small banks to help finance capital-thirsty small enterprises, which are more vulnerable to the blows of international financial crisis.
