More than 500 pictures and about 180 objects are on display recounting the changes in Tibet.

Senior Party leader, Liu Yunshan, visited on opening day.

The exhibition comprises five parts, including the peaceful liberation of Tibet in 1951, democratic reform, the fight against rebelions and separation attempts, as well as Tibet's economic and social development.

A visitor said, "Before, I knew little about the situation in old Tibet, but through these figures, pictures and objects, I now have full knowledge. The darkness of old Tibet shocked me."

Some visitors say the exhibition proves some western media reports are biased.

A visitor said, "The exhibition gives us direct information about Tibet. By reviewing Tibetan history, we could know the real situation in old Tibet. It was not a paradise of freedom as western media claim. It was a society featuring a feudal serfdom system and mixing politics and religion, which was even darker than the Middle Ages in Europe."

Visitors are also impressed by the great changes which have taken place in Tibet and how changes have benefited the people.

A visitor said, "Through this exhibition, I found Tibetans have been living a better and better life since the peaceful liberation and democratic reform."

For the next half a month, the exhibition is open to the public free of charge at the Cultural Palace of Nationalities.
