The two sculptures are from Beijing's Yuanmingyuan imperial palace.

Now, they are about to come under the hammer at Christie's.

The world's leading auction house carries a detailed description of the two sculptures on its website, saying they formed part of the 12 animal zodiac water clock in the palace gardens.

The 12 sculptures represented the Chinese zodiac. Their bodies were carved from stone and their heads were made of bronze.
