President Hu inaugurates China-aided bridge in Mali

The two leaders said the project will serve as a bridge of friendship and cooperation linking the two countries.
President Hu Jintao also inaugurated a China-aided anti-malaria center. To help the Malian people combat the disease, the Chinese government has donated about 3 million yuan to build the center, as well as training for local doctors. It is the 13th such center China has funded in Africa.
Hu Jintao told the Chinese experts in the center to focus on training local doctors, to better serve the Malian people.
In a meeting with a Chinese medical team in Mali, President Hu Jintao visited their kitchen, and told the chef to ensure the food quality. After taking pictures with the team members, Hu Jintao also thanked them for their great contributions to Sino-Malian relations.
President Hu Jintao also met with the President of the Malian National Assembly, Dioncounda Traore.
Hu Jintao said Mali was the first leg of his four nation trip to Africa. He stressed the importance of making Mali his first stop and said it reflects the state of the Sino-Malian relationship.
Hu Jintao said the aim of his visit is to work together with Mali to review the past, look to the future, and to promote bilateral ties.
Traore said that China is a great friend of Mali. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, both countries have developed the relationship based on the spirit of unity, friendship and respect. He also thanked China for its long-term assistance to his country.
