Chinese president in Saudi Arabia to boost bilateral ties

RIYADH, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao on Tuesday called for joint efforts with Saudi Arabia to ensure the two countries' economic and financial stability.

Hu, in a meeting with Saudi Arabian King Abdullah bin Abdul-Aziz during his state visit to this Gulf country, said China values the important role Saudi Arabia has played in safeguarding regional peace and stability and ensuring international energy security.

China has always dealt with its relations with Saudi Arabia from a strategic point of view, he said.

Hu also appreciated the support Saudi Arabia offered to China in the country's post-quake relief efforts and the Beijing Summer Olympics held last August.

King Abdullah echoed Hu's views on bilateral relations, saying both countries enjoy fraternal ties and China is Saudi Arabia's most sincere friend.

He said it is in the common interests of both countries to foster friendship and Saudi Arabia has a strong will to promote bilateral ties.

The two leaders vowed to deepen their strategic friendly ties, work together to tackle the global financial crisis and strengthen coordination in international and regional affairs.

They also agreed to keep closer communications on reforms of the world financial system.

Following the talks, the two leaders witnessed signing ceremonies for five cooperation deals in energy, health, quarantine, transportation and culture.

Hu arrived here earlier Tuesday for a state visit to deepen the strategic friendly relations between China and Saudi Arabia.

"With the joint efforts, I am convinced that the visit will be a complete success and the China-Saudi Arabia strategic friendship will be further developed," Hu said in a written statement on arrival at Riyadh Air Base.

Hu was greeted by the Saudi Arabian king in a welcoming ceremony at the airport.

Saudi Arabia is the first leg of Hu's five-nation tour. The week-long trip will also take him to Mali, Senegal, Tanzania and Mauritius.
