In a joint declaration issued after the meeting, both sides stressed the importance of their partnership in face of globalization and the current volatility of the international economy.

They vowed to enhance mutual understanding through dialogue and to properly address their differences.

The two sides also agreed to enhance coordination on macro-economic policies to overcome the financial crisis and to promote trade and investment liberalization.

Both sides say they are looking forward to the next high-level forum on the economy and trade, which is scheduled for April.
