In China, most people celebrate the Spring Festival at home with their families. But it's not always possible for parents to be reunited with their children.

Staff at nursing homes are making sure residents don't feel lonely over the festive season.

77-year-old Li Wenyuan is exchanging Spring Festival greetings with his daughter who is far away in Singapore.

Online video chat sites are a convenient way for him to communicate with his family abroad. Li says spending the Spring Festival here at Qianhe nursing home is ideal for him.

Li Wenyuan, Resident of Qianhe Nursing Home, said, "I can celebrate the Spring Festival with my daughter on the internet. I feel like we are so close although we are actually thousands of miles apart. I can also celebrate the special occasion with many friends here. We have a lot to talk about and many things to do every day."

Li is kept company by other senior citizens who also can't celebrate Spring Festival with their families for one reason or another. But they enjoy themselves with fun activities and are happy to live in such a pleasant environment.

Liu Yinghong, Head of Qianhe Nursing Home, said, "Many old people feel lonely at home when their family members are not with them, especially on big occasions like the Spring Festival. But they are happy here. Our responsibility is to make them feel at home and lead a happy life here. "
