Hu Jintao's tour also covered the IT sector. China's cell phone subscribers have exceeded 600 million, and business volume is soaring in the festival period. In his visit to a local China Mobile center, the president was happy to learn that the company offers migrant workers employment information and answers inquiries from local farmers.

Farmers' employment issues received extra attention from the president when he visited a major agricultural production base in the provincial capital city. Hu re-affirmed the central government's policies for rural populations, reassuring them amid hard economic times, when large numbers of migrant workers are returning home.

The president also had social security in mind when he praised local police.

Hu Jintao, Chinese President, said, "Your station has been a model among the country's public security departments and police officers. In particular, the police forces from Jiangxi had been outstanding in the earthquake relief in Sichuan Province last May. On behalf of the central government, I extended my thanks and new year greetings to you."

The president's tour in Jiangxi ended on a lighter note. At a public New Year celebration he received a painting from some youths.
