Danish PM extends greetings for Chinese New Year

STOCKHOLM, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen conveyed his "warmest greetings" to all Chinese on the eve of the Chinese New Year, according to reports reaching here Tuesday.

"I hope that the new year will bring happiness and prosperity to all Chinese in Denmark and in China," Rasmussen said in a Chinese New Year message.

The traditional Chinese New Year, a very important festival for the Chinese, falls on Jan. 26 this year. According to the Chinese lunar calendar, the year of 2009 is the Year of the Ox.

"We will all need the skills of the Ox regarding patience and ability to endure hardship while at the same time handling common challenges like curbing climate change in the Year of the Ox," said the Danish prime minister in the message.

Noting that Denmark has always had a good and constructive relationship with China, Rasmussen recalled his "very positive" visit to China in October 2008.

"Last year brought me even closer to China," he said.

In recent years, Rasmussen has always extended warm greetings to the Chinese on the occasion of the Chinese New Year.
