together, is putting much pressure on the railway system. "

To relieve the current pressure on the system, the railway authorities promise to reduce freight trains as well as short-distance trains to ensure more passengers can return home. They also promise to improve service and crack down on illegal ticket scalpers.

The Railway Ministry has also pledged to increase transport capacity. It says it will extend the railway system from the current 80 thousand kilometers to 110 thousand in the next four years.

Compared to the railway system, transport on airlines and road is less obviously impacted but there is of course also an increased capacity.

Many airlines have added flights to tourist hot spots and cities for people returning home. They are also trying to improve services with more information offices and other services.

With more vehicles on the roads, the transport authorities are reminding drivers to remain vigilant, so as to avoid accidents due to adverse winter weather conditions.
