An emergency mechanism has been set to prevent a bird flu outbreak in Beijing. The announcement comes after a 19-year-old woman died of the disease in a suburb of the city two days ago.

The Beijing Municipal Health Bureau says a total  of 116 people who were in close contact with the  patient have not shown abnormal symptoms.

Beijing has banned the entry of live poultry from other parts of the country and decided to give the public a daily briefing on the control of the disease.

Neighboring Hebei province and Tianjin city have also stepped up efforts to prevent the disease. There have been no signs of a bird flu outbreak in these areas.
