Condoleezza Rice, U.S. Secretary of State, said, "The Prime Minister has informed me that as of tomorrow, Israel will open a humanitarian corridor so that there can be some relief for the people of Gaza."
Meanwhile British Foreign Secretary, David Miliband called for collective efforts to end the ongoing crisis in the Gaza Strip.
David Miliband, British Foreign Secretary, said, "The crisis in Gaza is an indictment of our collective failure, all of us, over a long period, to bring about the two-state solution that offers the only hope of security and justice for Israelis and Palestinians alike."
The special, high-level UN Security Council meeting is expected to last two days.
Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas is calling for the council to quickly adopt a resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
But some Western council members say the text for such a resolution may not be ready for a vote until next week.
