ISS astronauts send New Year message

The crew on board the International Space Station has wished planet Earth a happy new year.

Commander Mike Fincke and Flight Engineers Sandy Magnus and Yury Lonchakov sent their greetings for the New Year, from a position 220 miles above Earth.

Mike Fincke, ISS Commander, said, "Tonight our earth will have completed another orbit around the sun and now we take stock of what we accomplished over the past year and what we hope to accomplish in the year ahead."

Sandy Magnus, ISS Flight Engineer, said, "As we look back at the achievements of the past year 2008 was the year the space station became international. In 2009 our New Year's resolution is to increase the size of the crew onboard from three to six astronauts."

Mike Fincke, ISS Commander, said, "And at the dawn of a new year Sandy, Yury and I would like to wish everyone on beautiful planet Earth a happy new year."
