After more than three years in the making, the mainland panda pair finally moved into their new home in Taiwan on Tuesday.

But to the disappointment of anxious onlookers, the couple are not on show for the public just yet. Experts say they must stay in quarantine for a month.

Taipei Zoo officials say they will check if the pandas' health and behavior is normal. They will adjust the environment according to their needs. If everything goes well, the cute and cuddly bears will meet the public in the last week of January, when the Chinese new year falls.

After a three-hour flight across the 160-kilometer Taiwan Strait, the unique Chinese mainland bears finally touched down in the regional city of Taipei.

Called "Tuan Tuan" and "Yuan Yuan" the pandas' names mean reunion when put together.
