Direct flights prove to be popular

It's been over a week since direct air links opened between the mainland and Taiwan. Statistics show, that on average, flights were over 70 percent full.

The past week saw five airlines from Taiwan and seven from  the Mainland begin direct cross-strait flights.

The past week saw five airlines from Taiwan and seven from the Mainland begin direct cross-strait flights. Those airlines offered over 45,000 seats and more than 33,000 passengers made the trip.

Direct air and sea transportation as well as postal service are now available between the mainland and Taiwan. That ends the nearly 60 year practice of routing flights or ships through a third place.
