A famous saying in China goes "People's life depends on eating." Great changes have taken place in terms of eating during the past three decades. 30 years ago, most Chinese viewed eating as a matter of survival. Since then, it's evolved into an art and a pleasure.

It's been 30 years since China implemented its reform and opening-up policy in 1978. And the eating habits of many Chinese have experienced significant changes during this period of time. It was rare for Chinese to go out to eat three decades ago. But dining out in restaurants has become commonplace today. The variety of cuisine to choose from is wide ranging. And 'quota limits' are now a thing of the past."

This is the largest sea food market in Beijing. Much of the large selection is more than fresh: it's live. That, and low prices draw a large number of customers.

Cui Yushan, Vice General Manager of Beijing Jingshen Seafood market, said, "All the products here are directly transported from seaside by air or road. They are absolutely fresh. People can buy whatever they like. It's convenient and the products are sold at wholesale price. So it's the lowest in the city."
