Down near the South Pole, an expedition is setting off to build China's third Antarctic station at Dome A, the highest point on the polar icecap.

Down near the South Pole, an expedition is setting off to  build China's third Antarctic station at Dome A, the  highest point on the polar icecap.

600 tons of building materials have been unloaded from the Xuelong ice breaker, and loaded on snow vehicles.

The new base will be called Kunlun Station. It will be China's first station in the interior of Antarctica and should be finished in January.
