Indonesian president appreciates China´s 30-year reform

JAKARTA, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said here on Thursday that China's achievements in the past 30 years of reform was a reference for Indonesia to follow.

The president made the remarks when presenting awards to provincial governors, district heads, mayors, researchers as well as community members who were considered to have made outstanding contributions to national food resilience at the presidential palace.

He said he was impressed by the transition of leadership in China that had gone smoothly as well as continuation of development programs in that country that had made it able to achieve remarkable successes this year including the implementation of the Olympic Games.

Yudhoyono also reiterated the importance of continuing efforts to develop the country's agricultural sector in order gradually to achieve self-sufficiency in rice, corn, soybean, meat, sugar and other foodstuffs.

He said in the next five years Indonesia would be able to be self-sufficient in soybean, sugar and cow meat so that it would no longer be dependent on imports for the commodities.
