In the Greek capital of Athens, protesters held a candle light vigil outside parliament house on Friday night. The vigil followed a seventh successive day of riots in the city, which were triggered by the police killing of a teenager.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis rebuffed calls to resign and hold early elections. He says a steady hand is needed in times of financial crisis. His remarks elicited anger from Greek youths, who hurled rocks at police as the latter retaliated with stun grenades and tear gas.

Protesters also shattered windows of shops, banks, and other buildings. Meanwhile, a clean-up effort has been underway since Friday evening, following the latest scuffles in the worst riots Greece has seen in decades.
