Greek PM holds emergency talks with President

Greek Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis began emergency talks with political leaders on Tuesday.

He is aiming to end the country's worst riots in decades, which have ravaged cities for three nights since police shot dead a 15-year-old boy -- triggering the unrest.

Karamanlis, whose party holds a one-seat majority in parliament met with Greek President Karolos Papoulias on Tuesday.

The prime minister updated the president on the extensive violence and destruction during the past three days in central Athens, as well as other cities across the country. He also said the government will deal firmly with acts of violence.

Costas Karamanlis, Greek Prime Minister, said, "No mercy will be taken in the placing of responsibility, no one has the right to use this incident as an excuse for acts of violence against innocent citizens, against their property, against all society and against democracy."
