In Thailand, security has been strengthened near the Parliament in Bangkok, in response to a mass demonstration planned for Sunday by the anti-government People's Alliance for Democracy party. The move also comes after assailants attacked protesters from the party on Saturday, killing one and injuring many others.

PAD leaders say the mass gathering planned for Sunday is aimed at toppling the so-called "proxy" government, stopping it from amending the constitution, and putting an end to what they refer to as the "Thaksin regime".

Meanwhile, police officials are urging the demonstrators to refrain from violence. The First Army Regional Commander says the military will be on hand during the rally, but only to monitor the situation.
