5 billion yuan will go to the national highway network. And more than half of this amount will go to highways in the west of China.

11 provinces in western China will get 2.8 billion yuan, while 7 central provinces will get 1.4 billion yuan, and the remaining 0.8 billion yuan will go to 7 other provinces in the east.

He Jianzhong, spokesman of Ministry of Transport, said, "As for the allocation of the funds, we have put emphasis on the central and western areas of the country. This is because the new highways there will need lots of bridges and tunnels. It will create great demand for steel and cement."
