Business people from the Chinese mainland and Taiwan have held a symposium in Taipei. They discussed stabilizing the economy by increasing cross-Straits financial cooperation.

The symposium was held by the mainland's Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits and the Taiwan-based Straits Exchange Foundation.

The Association's president Chen Yunlin says both the mainland and Taiwan have abundant foreign exchange reserves and quite strong economies. He says the two sides should increase financial cooperation.

ARATS Chairman Chen Yunlin said, "We signed four major agreements to prevent the acute slowing down of the economy because of insufficient liquidity. I believe the agreements will affect cross-Straits financial and economic exchanges positively."

SEF Chairman Chiang Pin-kung says the mainland and Taiwan should learn from previous global financial failures and implement the newly-signed deals quickly.
