Obama spent much of Wednesday in the battleground state of North Carolina, where he and McCain are essentially tied in the polls.

At an outdoor event in the state's capital, Raleigh, Obama sharpened his tone against his Republican opponent, and defended his own tax policy.

Barack Obama, Democratic Presidential Candidate, said, "He's been spending these last few days calling me every name in the book. Lately, he's called me a socialist for wanting to roll back the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans so that we can finally give tax relief to the middle class."
