The meeting came as a recent wave of suicide bombings claimed more than 20 lives in northern Somalia.

The leaders met in Nairobi on Wednesday, under the aegis of the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development.

They released a joint statement, calling for a new cabinet to be formed in Somalia within 15 days.

Although the talks included some members of Somalia's opposition, none of them are believed to be behind much of the bloodshed in the Somali capital of Mogadishu.

Somalia currently has no functioning government, and is suffering one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world, according to the UN.
