The summit is scheduled to open at the Great Hall of the People at 3:15 p.m. Beijing time. Six CCTV channels, including CCTV-9, CCTV Spanish, and CCTV French, will provide live coverage of the event.

The summit is expected to be the largest for ASEM so far. Representatives of its 45 members will exchange views and coordinate plans on major international issues.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Liu Jianchao said, "We're well prepared for the summit. The 7th ASEM summit has drawn great attention from the international community. So far, the number of reporters for the event is 1,878, with 1,248 of them from foreign countries."

Speaking at the first news conference for the summit on Thursday, Liu said the global financial crisis will top the meeting agenda.

Liu Jianchao said, "Asian leaders' perceptions are that Asia's overall economies are still good. But Asian countries should be more cautious, and must take coordinated actions in response to the crisis."

Analysts say the summit will provide an opportunity for Asia and Europe to work on solving the crisis together.

Other issues, such as energy, climate change, and food safety, will also be discussed at the summit.
